Hajduk Split fans rioted after the side’s 1-0 defeat to rivals Dinamo Zagreb in a Croatian Cup semi-final match on Wednesday.
It was Hajduk’s second defeat by Dinamo in just four days.
Shortly after the final whistle was blown at Split’s Poljud stadium, Hajduk fans invaded the pitch and ran towards the stand housing their rivals.
The invaders were met by police who forced them back into their end.
As riot police lined up in front of the Hajduk end, furious Hajduk fans began to throw seats, metal beer barrels and other objects at them.
The chaos continued outside the stadium, with riot cops fighting running battles against angry Hajduk fans.
At least 54 people were detained.
