Brescia fans threw flares and invaded the pitch during the second leg of their Serie B relegation play-off against Cosenza at the Mario Rigamonti Stadium on Thursday, forcing the game to be suspended.
Play was stopped in the 97th minute – less than two minutes after Cosenza had scored to make the score 1-1 and 2-1 on aggregate – as flares were thrown from the stands by angry Brescia fans.
A group of about 50 Brescia fans then spilled onto the pitch, clashing with police.
After a 30-minute delay, the referee decided to end the game.
Brescia were relegated to the Serie C as a result of their 2-1 defeat on aggregate.
There were also clashes between Brescia fans and police outside the ground.
